One thing impressed me about Vietnam right away. It was a
gorgeous country. From the air, the valley Stud was located in
was stunning, as you can see in this photo looking toward the
south.
Route 9 snaked along the valley on its way to the DaKrong
River Valley and Khe Sanh.
The North Vietnamese Army later overran Stud in the Easter
Offensive of 1972 and wiped out much of what stood there in
1969. Today, as I understand it, Vandegrift has been settled and
built upon. If it's true, I don't blame them. What a beautiful
